Le chef de l’État tchadien, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, avait alors réaffirmé sa détermination : « Nous intensifierons nos efforts sans relâche pour anéantir cette menace une fois pour toutes », avait-il déclaré le 5 mai dernier sur Facebook. Ces mots faisaient suite à l’attaque menée la veille par une faction du groupe terroriste Boko Haram contre une position militaire stratégique située à Barka Tolorom, sur les bords du lac Tchad. L’assaut a coûté la vie à 24 soldats tchadiens, illustrant la persistance et la dangerosité croissante de cette organisation jihadiste.
